Workplace 360

Workplace 360

Workplace 360 is an assessment of current workplace and employment conditions, based on the Sustainable Dairying Workplace Action Plan.  We use it to identify strengths and weaknesses in the work environment, see where we can make improvements and help monitor progress.

The assessment has three levels: Foundation, Good and Great Practice.  Our goal is to eventually achieve 100% in all three levels.

This is our result for 2021:

Owl Farm Workplace 360 report June 2021

We record hours worked weekly and aim to achieve an average of 45hrs/person/week.  In 2020/21 we achieved  46hrs/person/week. Continuous investments in technology, infrastructure and people on farm are required to improve this. The team works a 12 days on/2 days off roster all year round, with 2.8 full-time equivalents employed in the 2021-22 season (0.2 FTE of Tom’s time is for demonstration activities).

The graph below, showing Total Hours worked per Week, demonstrates the deliberate shift to reduce workload in the spring to a more even distribution across the year.  Crop feeding and more supplements being fed during dry summers has increased the amount of work required in the late lactation period.
