Animal Well-being Plan
Every season we develop an Animal Well-being Plan in conjunction with our vets. The plan addresses:
Nutrition – animal condition.
Health – mastitis, lameness, mortality, antimicrobial resistance.
Environment – planning for extreme weather and development of management strategies for heat stress.
Behaviour – discussion about current and future herd improvement strategies through genetics, for example the use of polled and/or thermal tolerance traits.
Our plan includes historical performance and Owl Farm targets, along with industry targets. This plan is submitted to Fonterra annually to contribute to The Co-operative Difference.
