Tuesday our perennial pastures tested 250+ and annuals at 100+, meaning both were unsafe to graze. Wednesday after a morning of sun the perennials were down to 100 and the cows went on at 4.30pm. Unfortunately one calf had to be euthanised at the graziers due to a broken femur during misadventure through bullying. Expenses to the end of April $874,750 or $5.32 kg MS - currently $18k over budget with unbudgeted supplementary feed expenses still to be accounted for in May. Nathan Penny presented at our May Farm Focus Day: https://youtu.be/r8FAaHrAnD4 with some insightful views about what is pushing the increasing product value we are seeing currently due to Covid, Conflict, Capital and Carbon. Nothing to report this week. It’s been a long time coming but we have just got average hours worked per person per week down to 45. This has taken a farm injury, covid disruptions and a long overdue trip overseas to reach our target. This highlights why it’s so important that we continue to explore where the hours are being spent and our 2022/23 investment in people, process, and technology to reduce hours worked on farm throughout the year, not just an average over the whole year. Included are videos on why soils matter with Louis Schipper from Waikato University, and criteria for investing in technology with Brian Dela Rue from DairyNZ. • Transition new farm manager • Start Mg supplementation • Complete calf shed set up • Change rubberware Cheers from Jo + Tom + Julz Copyright © *|CURRENT_YEAR|* *|LIST:COMPANY|*, All rights reserved. *|IFNOT:ARCHIVE_PAGE|* *|LIST:DESCRIPTION|* Our mailing address is: *|HTML:LIST_ADDRESS_HTML|* *|END:IF|* Want to change how you receive these emails?
